Nigeria – Alaoji Combined Cycle Power Plant

Rockson Engineering Nigeria has formally given notice to Ansaldo Caldaie to begin delivery of 2 Heat Recovery Steam Generators that are to be part of the upgrade of the existing Alaoji power plant from Open Cycle to a Combined Cycle Configuration. This was confirmed earlier this year at a ceremony attended by Managing Director Barbara Lefebvre, Vittorio Arena and Marcello Martano and Rockson representatives, Dr. Martin Arumemi-Ikhide and Carmelo Cimino.

This step follows the previous Letter of Intent signed by the two Parties some months ago for the first stage of the project, related to the pre-engineering activities.

The Scope of Work for Ansaldo Caldaie is the design, manufacture and supply of  2 HRSG’s and all associated equipment producing 126,1 kg/s of steam (each) at 544°C with a pressure of 100,41 bar at battery limit.

Ansaldo Caldaie will also be providing support and technical assistance through the erection, commissioning, start up and performance tests phases, ensuring the highest deliverable quality.

This important achievement is the first contract Ansaldo Caldaie has acquired in Nigeria, the most important and densely populated country in Africa, opening the way to establish Ansaldo Caldaie in one of the most interesting areas in respect of development of power generating capacity.

This is the first conversion decided by our Client, who operates and maintains 5 other Power Plants in Open Cycle.

Rockson Engineering is the most important full national contractor operating in the power sector and is strategically participating in the huge privatization program launched by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Nigeria accounts 170 million inhabitants having the lowest ratio in the world of electricity available per person, in the national grid, while it is the 5th producer in the world in respect of oil production (more than 3 million bpd).

In the coming years, the country expects to install new plants and develop the existing ones to increase the electricity availability by 10GW per year.

Our achievement in the successful conclusion of this phase of the project is a testament to the tremendous team work and efforts of all parties. The successful execution of the project will provide a tremendous foundation for future business in the country for both Ansaldo Caldaie and Rockson Engineering.
